Vegas Pro 8 feedback
Posted by Steve Edwards on September 29, 2007 at 10:55 pmDoes anyone have any good or bad stories on the new version? I got an email from Sony about getting a discount for upgrading, but it is only available till 10/31, and wondering if it was worth it to upgrade from 6.0. I remember alot of comments being made when 7 came out, that computers were crashing, and all sorts of terror. So, if someone has some good or bad comments on their use of version 8 pro, I certainly would appreciate hearing about them. Also I take it that with Pro8, you also get the upgrade to DVD4.5?

September 30, 2007 at 1:44 amIt’s been working for me. It has a lot of neat new scripting features which I’ve used to totally rewrite the scripts we use at church into a “Custom Command” – has sped up the editing process tremendously with much better feedback.
Even if you don’t install it now, I’d purchase while it’s cheaper if I’m “GOING” to install it in the future.

September 30, 2007 at 8:09 amI am on V6. I did not see any benefit for me to upgrade to V7 because V6 worked and worked and worked….without ant issues. Because I had some problems with V5 which needed sorting, I upgraded to V6 but did not use it until it was reported to be stable
I have some personal issues with V8 but I shall upgrade anyway. The discount is very good. Again I may have to use V6 for some things till the niggles are ironed out.
I find the new titler difficult to master, probably because I am used to different work flow. The cayman graphics titler is flacky with V8, so for now I may stick to V6 for titles.

Mahesh

There is a new titler which is a biggie.
The interface leaves something to be desired but the
funtionality seems sweet.I dont have a blu-ray burner but if I did I would
consider being able to burn a disk from the timeline
an interesting function.Other than those features (just had it a couple of days) I
have not had much time to get into it.As a business choice getting the update while its
cheap is a good move. You can wait until a point release comes out so at least you have the latest feature set available.Bob

That would be a shame since the new titler is very much worth learning.

You are right about the titler. It just does not fit in, at the moment, in my work flow.
The way I do titles requires that I pick colours off the screen, add ‘outline’ to the text (Stroke ) and then apply blur to the outline.
I guess, these things may appear in future updates. -

October 4, 2007 at 6:59 amThis is probably something I’d do in Photoshop, but that means you can’t use the Pro Titler. I’d be surprised if you see this feature any times soon, sounds very specialized, but then again, I am not Sony and it wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong.
Come to think of it, I don’t think I know of graphics package that can do this easily, but then again, what do I know?
