October 28, 2020 at 3:02 am in reply to: Compressor for FCP 6 disappeared; can I retrieve?I’m not sure this helps, but I too had some issues with Compressor after my machine automatically updated the OS. (Apple has ended support for 32 bit apps, which is great, since I paid real money for them.) Anyway, my IT people had me delete the non-functional version of Compressor off my machine, and go to the Apple App Store to download it again. It told me there was a newer version, but offered me the option to go backward and download the last version that was compatible with my system. That worked, and it didn’t charge me any money, so I was back in business. I hope you have similar success.

That was the exact easy-answer I couldn’t think of, thanks John.

No, I’m afraid relinking in the timeline still updates the clip across all sequences. I had thought of that. It would be nice if relinking it in the timeline just updated that one instance, while relinking in the browser would relink it in all occurrences. This is not how my system seems to be working. (Perhaps that’s an old Avid behavior I’m remembering?)
As I said, this is more of an intellectual exercise than any pressing question, but thanks for thinking about it.

I’m afraid that didn’t seem to help. (It’s this file, right?)
com.aja.KonaControlPanel.plist

Ah, bugger, that’s what I meant of course.
But I just went and deleted all the render files, trashed my prefs again, and relaunched, to no avail. Creating new dissolves has no apparent effect, unless I put in slug to dissolve to. Weirdness.
For what it’s worth, this system did crash four or five times earlier in this project, (last week) so something may have gone goofy then. Still, you’d think trashing prefs would have fixed it.

I’ve trashed preferences, yes. And we’re trying not to install new software or plug-ins once we have a semi-stable system. That said, my After Effects guy installed “StuffIt Expander” this morning before I got here. I’d be surprised if that caused the glitchiness, though, no?
Another oddity from this project: Option-shift-T no longer creates audio dissolves. Curiouser and curiouser.

So, oddly, this issue turned out to only exist on my edit station, the one we refer to as being “haunted” by the ghost of the previous editor. The other editor’s station played the spots back normally.
We did come up with a work-around, though, which was to take the spots into After Effects and re-export them from there, with a corrected frame rate. Then my machine played them normally. Just mentioning it, in case anybody has similar problems and needs a workaround.

No, no, you’re right. I was just being overly-emphatic. I do resize the Timeline roughly 1000 times more often than I resize the Canvas window, but there are instances when it’s totally called for.

You know, you’re totally right. I’ve been Cmd-ing when I meant to be Opt-ing. It’s apparently been too long since I “RTFM”‘d. I had remembered it incorrectly. Thanks a lot.

Actually, I wish the keyboard shortcuts for to expand or contract the Viewer/Canvas windows were just different than the keyboard shortcut for the Timeline. I’m not seeing why those are the same keys.
