    The border filter in FCP is awful. It will only place a border around the entire raster, so if you crop it or use a circle mask it doesn’t do what you are looking for,

    1 option is to put a colored matte below it and then copy the circle mask from the first clip onto the color matte and then adjust it so it is a little bit larger.

    No I don’t, but if you do a search on the forum you’ll find plenty of stuff about it.

    It’s not too difficult to do though, there are several options, you can copy all the media, or just what was actually used in the piece, but if you’re going to copy all the media the easiest way is to just copy and paste the project folder in you capture scratch folder and then anything else that you need (the sequence, LT files, Motion Files)

    The only reason I would use Media Manager is if I’m trying to reduce the amount of information that is going to be copied and I was going to tell it to copy only what was used in the project with some handles.

    If you want to duplicate the project you can do it 2 ways.

    One with FCP open just do a save as and either save it with the same name at a different location or save it to the same location with a different name.

    The other method is to just copy and paste it in the MAC finder and give it a different name if you want.

    Do you want to copy the media over as well or just the project?

    The media you can again just copy and paste or you can Media Manage the entire project and that will copy everything over to a different place.

    If you copy just th eproject like in option 1 then any other files that were used in the project that can’t be re-digitized (like Live Type files, Motion files, Music, Sound Effects or anything else would need to be copied and pasted as well.

    That will work in any window with tabs.
    So if you are in the Viewer and want to go over to the Motion Tab you can use that short Cut too.

    Put one video on top of the other in FCP and then adjust the opacity to suite your needs.

    Jeremy;

    I don’t recall you mentioning this to me before, but I will definitely look into it further.

    I asked then for a demo and we’ll see what happens.

    Have you personally used it?

    Thanks;

    [David Roth Weiss]
    XDCAM HD at 35mbps is only 15.31Gb per hour and at 25mbps it’s only 11Gb per hour.”

    David;

    Forgive me, I’m just about to get my feet wet with XD Cam and I’m trying to get somethings straight in my mind.

    The files sizes that you have are in the XD Cam codec, doesn’t it still have to be put in a QT wrapper or something.

    Someone suggested bringing it in as Apple Pro Res 422 which would be 32GB at 1280 x 720 or 47GB for HQ for the same hour of footage.

    Also what is the best work flow for editing in SD (for right now) with this footage do I still need the Sony App to bring it in or has FCP (6.0.5) incorporated that into the log and transfer.

    Thanks;

    October 8, 2009 at 10:33 pm in reply to: Putting transistions between 2 sequences??

    You probably don’t have enough head and tail on the clips.

    When you nest clips it takes just the amount that is originally in the time line and make that a nest.

    You either need to trim your nested sequences by 10 or 15 frames on each side, butt them together and then add the transition or if the nest is what you need then open the nest and add 10-15 frames to the beginning and end of the clips.

    Does this make sense?

    [Kevin Hamm] “he sweet thing about the EX1’s is that Log & Transfer is both quick and clean, and the final file you can just drop in your timeline and go. However, be sure to change your render type to ProRes422 HQ as the GOP(?) of XDCAM is really long, so when you make any edit, you have to re-render huge swaths of video. That was an annoyance that I didn’t know of up front, but thankfully, you can set that once and forget it in FCP7.”

    Kevin;

    Thanks. It looks like we are going with Sony.
    Out of curiosity, how long does it take to transfer a 1 min clip and what is file size?

    Thanks;
