  • Create border on circle filter

I need to make a colored border around the circle using the circle shape filter. I see border is not a selectable parameter in the filter. When I select Borders it only creates a border around the entire frame. How do I create this switcher effect in Final Cut?

My FC is rendering, so I can not have a look.
There is not any “Edge Feather” or so?
You can always apply a Gaussian Blurs, but, carefull, just to the RGB channels.
    Perhaps also the “Mask Feather”?

What I am talking about is a colored border, with the ability to adjust the color and thickness of the border, just as you might with a switcher effect.

The border filter in FCP is awful. It will only place a border around the entire raster, so if you crop it or use a circle mask it doesn’t do what you are looking for,

1 option is to put a colored matte below it and then copy the circle mask from the first clip onto the color matte and then adjust it so it is a little bit larger.

“Oval Iris” (Transitions) is a circular wipe. You can put a colored border if you want.

I think there are a bunch of freebies from the likes of CV and DH that have excellent border options for wipes.

This is what makes Photoshop and Illustrator such valuable tools for film makers. It’s very easy to make a circle or oval in either of those programs and then make a stroke around it. Or just make the stroke.

BTW, you can do this in Motion using it’s vector shape generator. Refer to your Motion manual for more info.

Use Generators > Boris > Vector Shape. That has what you need. Also, Motion of course – but why leave the app?

You can actually create a border with the circle generator, however, it is not straight forward: involves 2 more layers, nesting and a travel matte luma comp mode.

you can do this with my free Region Blur plugin too, just set edge to frame, blur to zero and the tint color and amount as needed … bear in mind that with my plugin the frame thing works best on square pixel comps

I would do it in Live Type using a zero or O

That’s the one that works for me. I have to add the Luma Keyer to make the video appear through the circle. But that’s the effect I was looking for, without leaving FCP, as you say. Thanks.
