    Thanks Noah,

I figured that might be the way to go. It’s just a bit of a pain having that extra step when it should just work.

    Thanks again.

    Hello,

There’s a script here that might help:

    https://www.motionsmarts.com/downloads.html

It can only do one shape at a time though.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello,

I know it’s not really what you’re after but this could be done very easily in Flash then exported as a quicktime movie file.

    Just a thought.

    Hello,

If you’re using layer styles, emboss, drop shadow etc. you have to convert them to physical layers by selecting the effected layer and going to:

Layer > Layer Style > Create Layer

I read about this somewhere but can’t remember where. I’ve just tested it with a bevel and it works although I had to mess about with some masks in Motion to make it look right.

I use Motion 2 so not sure about ver 3.

    Hope this helps.

October 22, 2007 at 6:32 pm in reply to: how to import vector file to a Motion shape object?

    Hello,

Make sure the text in your illustrator file is converted to outlines. When you save it as an .ai file make sure “Create PDF Compatible File” is checked, this will allow motion to open it.

Once you have your .ai file in Motion and you’ve set up your emitter you need to set Shape to Image (not geometry), then set Arrangement to Random Fill and drag your .ai file in to the Image Source well.

You may have to mess about with a few more settings to get it just right but this should be a start.

    Hope this helps.

Make sure the background layer in Photoshop is transparent (has the grey and white checkerboard pattern on it), then when you save it as a tiff in the tiff options dialogue box that comes up click the check box next to Save Transparency. It’ll give you a warning about other applications not supporting it, go ahead and save it and it will import in to Motion with a transparent background.

You can also bring PSD files in to Motion and it will keep all your layers as they were in Photoshop so you’ll have a lot more flexibility.

    Cheers.
