Typically, the purpose of a UPS is two-fold…
Your use of a UPS should be limited to providing adequate time to close down a project and shut down your computer correctly in the event of sudden power loss. You’ll discover that the advertised runtimes for any particular UPS will be significantly shorter when used on an editing system, which typically have greater power draws. They should NOT be used to continue editing after sudden power loss. The runtimes are very fluid, and may actually be MUCH shorter than they are advertised, or can differ from time to time. You may think that you have 15 minutes to continue working in hopes that the power will restore before that time, only to have the runtime be shortened due to any myriad of reasons, and end up with a sudden power loss to the system due to the UPS’s cycle ending.
We have found it safest to use a UPS of higher capacity rather than lower, and we like the ones available with an LCD status display.
