    Hi All,

Something has gone wonky with my PPro, and I can no longer dynamically link footage from PPro to After Effects. When I try to send a “New After Effects Composition,” AE launches and then just sits there with a new comp but no linked sequence.

A caveat here: I did not install or configure CS5.5 on this box, my IT department did. Ever since, I have been troubleshooting and chasing problems up and down with this install. I think this most recent problem is because the IT guys recently installed a fast boot disk so that I could have my RAID drive dedicated to media. So, they had to move Production Premium over to the boot disk and I have a sneaking suspicion that it now thinks that PPro is not part of Production Premium.

I can dynamic link the “old way” whereby I grab the sequence from PPro and move it to an AE project window. But, that won’t dynamically link back to PPro–it has to be rendered.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is there a way I can check to see if the PC thinks PPro is part of Production Premium? Am I looking at a reinstall of Production Premium?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Were PPro and AE installed at the same time? If they are licensed separately(not part of the creative suite) or not installed at the same time, Google reveals there can be some weirdness with Dynamic Link.

We have had the same problem occur twice, and re-installing the CS5 Suite was the only thing that we could do to regain dynamic link capability.

I have the same problem, but only after updating 5.5 to 5.5.1 in order to fix an XML import problem from FCP 7.0.
Now I have no dynamic link and I am terrified of this idea that I need to go to another program(AE) in order to use all the plugins that I used inside FCP.
I’ve just finished a two hour music vid in FCP – it took two years on and off. Supposing I was near the deadline and this happened. Almost every clip used plugs that now only appear in AE. I’m scared – this seems too complicated a workflow for reliability and for me whatever the workflow, reliability is the only game in town when one is working to deadlines. I simply cannot take the chance that this link can ever get broken in either direction.
Why can’t all plugs written for Adobe run in both PPro and AE etc?

I used to be Jon Hiseman but I’m feeling better now.
