or you could put fractal noise on a solid layer and keyframe evolution over time.

Now put an adjustment layer above it with a twirl effect on.
Key frame rotating the adjustment layer.

I made a project using this technique and it didn’t look too bad.
drop me an e-mail if you’d like the project file.

  • You could consider using CC Mr Mercury.

Hmm, I tried to accomplish this by using a starfield image on a layer and using Distort -> Offset to move it across the X axis and wrap back on the other side of the screen.

The odd thing was the stars appeared to pulsate when I did a ram preview ?

Is this what you meant ?

I have to agree with you that it is sometimes very hard to make head or tail of what Ayato is trying to explain but I think I have managed to come up with something very close to what he intended.

If you’d like to drop me a line I’d be happy to send you my project file.

    Hi Alan,

I am intending to send up my own web site with some ideas and tutorials as I have noticed a shortage of good sites for AE.

I can’t promise they will be of the same high quality as we get from the Cow but I’d be happy to try and help out people.

Dave , I had a go at this using the shatter effect and a custom shatter map with “White Tiles Fixed” enabled in the Shape sub menu.
With a bevel & emboss layer style added I managed to get the
look of the metal being punched out in the shape of a logo or text.
If you wanted more stress to the remaining metal plate could you perhaps add a distortion effect ?
Or maybe you’ve already looked at this option and not been happy with the outcome ?
