How to achieve a “Dawn of the Dead” effect?…
Greetings,
I was wondering how to achieve the effect of a liquid (in this case blood) spilling into text and then continuing to move off the screen. If this is a known effect that has a name, I don’t know it, so I can’t look it up. Any help would be appreciated.If you don’t know the scene that I am talking about it is here, just click on Dawn of the Dead and then movie to see the movement that I am talking about.

Looks like they probably filmed the spraying of black ink on a white background, or something like that, and then have it run down the the background. Then in After Effects, or whatever compositing software, they created a solid the same color as the text, then made a track matte out of the sprayed ink footage. Or something like that.

In this Wired interview with Kyle Cooper, the designer of the title sequence, he said he used human blood but that might be a bit of hyperbole.
