Not that I want to discourage you from using Motion. However, the Primatte RT keyer is also available in FCP so you don’t need to go to Motion to use that keyer if you don’t want. If you heavily use masks then Motion is definitely better at that. Hope this was of help.

Use something like the Cloud Chambers in Digital Juice’s Compositor’s Toolkit Vol. 1. Treat it like a Luma blend mode and it will reveal one layer to another. Hope I made sense. Best of luck.

I’ve never used the template but I imagine it is very complicated. Because Motion works in real time the more complex the template gets the slower it goes. Sorry, I’m sure this is not the answer you want.
If you are outputting through the Kona card to view on an external monitor that can effect realtime playback. There are other things you can do to improve playback performance like turning off thumbnails in the Layers tab and soloing layers.

9 is to high for a max bit rate. 9 will not play on all DVD players. Have you tried using the pre-built settings?

Where the “bad” tapes shot on a Sony camera and the the good tapes shot on a different brand? What I’m getting at is this, in a nutshell. Sony shoots on DVcam while the others shot on DV. It is the same tape but the DVcam will play bad in a none-DVcam camera.

I’ve had great luck with Compressors SD DVD settings. You might want to look at Sorenson Squeeze or Cleaner if you are not happy.

You could always add some slow movement to the text. The Throw behavior does a good job at that. Not sure if this is the type of suggestion you are looking for.
