You take the clip and slow it down with a behavior or keyframes. Then you duplicate the clip. Use the mask tool on the top clip to create a mask around the person. Then on the bottom clip add a desaturate filter to make it turn from color to black and white. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Yes, go with Pro Res, some formats..for example, the Canon T2i shoots on H.264 and if you import that directly into FCP without converting it into ProRess it will keep crashing FCP. You can mix formats. Also, I find it is easiest to just drag the clip I’m working with into the timeline and let FCP figure out what my sequence settings should be, and when it ask to change the sequence I click ok.

You can Nest the clips together and then increase the scale…but I agree with Andrew. You will be better off sending the part of the timeline where you want it to Zoom into Motion and doing it there. The results will be smoother and you will be able to do it faster there as well. Hope this helps and best of luck.

60p. If you haven’t, run it through Cinema Tools first. Change its frame rate to 24 or 30 and it will slow it down to half speed real well. Then bring it into Motion to slow down more. Hope this helps and best of luck.
