Autoripple is a personal decision. I rarely have it on, but it comes in handy when keeping ungrouped events in sync, like you described.

I couldn’t open the veg file – there’s a missing transition plug-in.
You don’t say why you are rendering lossless, but all lossless renders will be huge.

I’ve been criticized by people because I always update my O/S and drivers ASAP. And I can honestly say that I can count the number of Vegas stoppages in the past year on one hand. Around here a crash is exceedingly rare.
For the next question, I recommend that you start a new thread.
Filesize, Bitrate and Quality are all mutually dependent. If you want a smaller filesize, reduce the bitrate, which reduces the quality. Only you can decide what is the optimum bitrate for your project.
WMP is probably stuttering because the bitrate is too high. No one I know uses WMP to preview their video. It’s really old technology. I recommend VLC Media Player (free) or another that begins with “Wonder” and ends with “Player” and triggers a “bad words” filter on this forum. I don’t know why. It’s also free, but be careful that you read what options you are accepting, especially the defaults.

As far as I know, those NB plugins were licensed only for Version 10 of Vegas.

This just means that Vegas is waiting for a service to start before it can continue.
You say it’s worse than before, but it renders faster. I am confused because I think you are chasing multiple problems. So, what is the specific problem that is worse now than before reinstalling Vegas?
Have you updated your video device drivers?

In addition to the Volume Envelope on the track, you can create a region and drag the envelope down in the region and get an instant four-point duck.

Every project here gets its own bare HDD (built into the price of the project) that goes into a USB external docking station. When the project is finished, that HDD goes into the closet. Archive done.
Seriously, I can go back to any project from the past five years, drop the project HDD into the dock and open the project veg file and I’ll be back exactly where I was the day I put it to bed.
I have never lost a project due to an HDD failure, but for safety purposes, I always copy the original camera files to a second backup.
External disk drives are still coming down in price. I can get 1Tb for $50 which is enough for most projects. At NewEgg, 2Tb drives can be had for around $99 and 3Tb drives are in the $129 range.
