Are any of you dealing with this? I hate it. It’s awkward and confusing. I resisted for months creating (or linking? I’m not even sure if Google created a Google+ account for me or not because the process is so labyrinth) a Google+ account that linked to my YouTube channel, but today I was notified that comments notifications would no longer show up in my channel, but would now show up on my Google+ page.

So, fine, I relented. I got a comment, saw it on the bell (among several other opaque icons whose function still isn’t clear to me), but don’t see it listed on the video comments. YouTube says that comments will now be more heavily sorted based on continuing threads and some other criteria, some of which I can choose, like banning certain commenters. But I’m not sure why this comment didn’t show up, and this whole thing is a nuisance.

Not only that, but I run a channel for a client, who wants to be able to manage his own content since not everything on his channel is something I shoot, so this is a big headache, because I have to help him understand how to run it, which he doesn’t have the time to do, and he shouldn’t need to do.

I just realized that I’m getting email notifications for comments, too. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ALL EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS FROM GOOGLE+, INCLUDING FOR COMMENTS, TURNED OFF.

Edit: Apparently, I had my email notifications turned off in my settings, but not in my…dashboard settings? This system can go to hell. I have to navigate menus with names that give no distinction, definition, or apparent reason for existing, just to make sure that whatever it is Google+ does (I still have no idea what really is or what it functions as) doesn’t interfere with how I use YouTube.

I have noticed similar things with a client channel I manage. We plan to move our existing clients, and all new clients to Vimeo. A few have already expressed interest in the Vimeo plus and Pro. Just goes to show there is no free lunch!

My vote is for Vimeo as well, though I do upload content on youtube and then ignore it. No comments, nothing, it’s there to take advantage of Google searches and nothing else. Vimeo is very useful for my work and my clients, I am able to control the “outros” or have nothing, super useful so people do not wander away looking at other content.
