  • Fade out audio to a lower volume – NOT completely. Possible in Vegas?

Posted by Søren Sørensen on November 6, 2013 at 12:11 pm

    Dear CC-Forum,

So I’m adding audio to a project video.
In some parts of the video (e.g. intro, credit roll) I would like an audiotrack playing (say 100% volume).

In other parts of the video (e.g. voice-over parts & interviews), I would like the audiotrack to be faded to a lower volume (say 10% volume).
Is it possible to accomplish this in Vegas?

This is where I am now:
I can cut the audiotrack (see attached image) and “fade out” the first track, and “fade up” the second, but that sounds somewhat horrible.

Yes, its more than possible to accomplish this in Vegas Søren.
You simply use the Volume Envelope (Right click on the audio track
and go to Insert/remove envelope and select volume
    ). You can then
add points on the line, then drag down the volume and tweak as you see fit.

Yep use the volume envelope. Also, you can take it into Sound Forge and add your own fade NOT to 0 in there. In addition, if you right click on the fade you can select additional fade ins or outs that are not the default…

In addition to the Volume Envelope on the track, you can create a region and drag the envelope down in the region and get an instant four-point duck.

See my wiki for an example.
