I’ve never seen that exact problem, but just a guess that your video is on the motherboard and not a separate GPU.
If I am right, then your video is using shared RAM with your motherboard. Do I win?

You are doing things correctly. You didn’t say which version of Windows that you are running (each handles setting dependencies differently).
If you are on Vista or W7, try runninf Vegas as administrator. User may not have the privilege to set file associations.

Most of the larger brand name disc blanks are purchased as a commodity item. In other words, your discs in a Verbatim box may well be made by TDK on week and JVC the next. You simply cannot depend on the label on the box. Use a free DVD Identifier program to verify just who made your blank media.
Ty is one of those OEM manufacturers, so you could easily find Ty discs in your JVC (or TDK or Sony) box.

Laggy? That’s a term I haven’t heard to describe video. But, if you are talking about AVCHD, then you need a pretty powerful CPU to be able to play it on the timeline at full-speed.

Happens to me all the time, but when I click on the timeline, it “reappears”. It was there all along. Never has caused me a problem, so I ignore it.

Yellow brackets – I am not in front of my editing PC right now, but there is a selection in the config menu to delete selections when no active video is selected. Or something like that…
Also, the default timeline display is start frame, mid frame and end frame of the event on the timeline. (If it’s on the timeline, it’s an event. If it’s in the trimmer, it’s a clip. Semantics, I know, but the difference is important when corresponding with the manual or other users). You can also change this in the conig menu.
I have also never used the trimmer. I think it’s there just to handicap film, FCP or Premiere users who just can’t accept the ease of simply editing on the timeline.
Scroll speed – Contour Shuttle Pro. Can’t edit without it.

Your TV could be stretching the image to match the screen dimensions. Too many people, including videographers who should know better, think there’s something wrong with their TV if they see letterboxing or pilars on the screen, so they turn on the “stretch” mode.

You could write a book on “Out of Memory” and “Low on Memory” errors.
I wish that Microsoft would say more in the error messages, but “memory” in this case refers to system resources – not just the amount of RAM you have. “System Resources” includes the RAM, Virtual Memory and other resources needed by the application.
Most often, you don’t have enough contiguous RAM to create a new Virtual Memory Page. This can be fixed by making your virtual memory static by setting the min-max virtual memory sizes to the same value. If you start getting “Low Memory” errors, increase the size of the virtual memory.

I have burned hundreds of DVD’s and never had an issue. I never burn DVD’s at the highest speed available. If DVDA wants to burn at 8X, I select 4X. Works every time.
