Sometime last summer, I bought a copy of Sony Vegas Movie Studio (the cheap beginner one, about $54). Last month, my hard drive crashed, and I ended up getting a new one and re-installing everything. I’m now trying to re-install movie studio, but can’t find the registration information. I still have the old, crashed hard drive and the sony files on it, and was wondering if the serial key was kept anywhere that I could access.

    A few other details:

    * I have a record of the transaction in my bank history
    * I’m trying to contact Sony support, but they are not making it easy. Live support is only during weekdays (I’m at work) and email requires you provide a serial number, build number, stuff I am supposed to find by having a working copy.
    * The original installation was first a free, trial version. I then purchased a license online and entered the serial key. I did not have a packaged version mailed to me.
    * I’ve been trying to find the serial key via email, but it was either sent to a spam-inbox (and my email deletes this info once it reaches a certain age, my bad for not saving it) or was displayed in the webpage, itself.
    * I cannot run the old installation – it was once installed on drive C:, and now this drive is F:. If fixing this is a simple matter of a few registry switches, I’m all ears.

Based on this info, does anyone have any advice??

    Try:

Let us know if that does not work.

As Norman says – *if* you registered the software when you first installed it, Sony has the key in the link that Norman provided above.

If you’re still out there….I had an issue where I needed to make a hard copy record of all my Sony keys and such. Guess what, they’re stored in your Windows registry. Mine is here:

    My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Creative Software\Vegas Pro

then select the version. The entry marked CurrentKey has the Serial first, then Activation key. The serial is also listed under MID(serial key)
