That camera shoots in HDV. A dual-core processor is underpowered for any HD format. (At least HDV isn’t as highly compressed as AVCHD, which would really crawl on your PC). But 2GB of Ram is almost a joke. Yes, Windows will run, but you won’t have much RAM left for programs.
I work almost exclusively with HDV on a quad-core computer (with 8GB of RAM), but as Danny says, bite the bullet and go with an i7 processor. You won’t regret it later.

Tech support or Customer support? They are different departments with different priorities.
I’ve never needed tech support due to the fantastic knowledge collection on the Cow and Sony forums. I have had to contact customer Support a few times and they have always been quick to respond.
If it’s a technical question, ask it here first.

I went back to your original thread and tried your instructions, and I can’t duplicate the problem. Neither could a few other people who took the time to try. Yet you persist that there’s a bug in Vegas that Vegas technical support can’t duplicate either?

That seems long, even for an underpowered PC. I have a quad-core processor, 2GHz, 8GB of RAM. Almost all of my work starts as HDV, mostly multicam, and ends up as Widescreen DVD-5. A 1:20:00 project takes about three-hours to encode to MPEG-2.
On the other hand, I had a set of five-minute videos that were heavily layered with SFX, and those took hours to render to AVI files.

You won’t see any performance with CUDA assist in Vegas unless you start with a seriously underpowered PC.
“The guy who sold it to me said he gets about 50% better render times with his 64 CUDA core card.”
What was he rendering? CUDA in the GPU is primarily for gamers. More cores makes faster rendering of shading and textures in games. Adobe Premiere? The fact that Adobe Premiere needs GPU support just to be able to do what Sony Vegas can do with processor alone should tell you something.

My system drive is accessible in a front-load disk caddy. “My Documents” is on the internal “D” drive. I can swap the system drive and reboot in minutes. It’s an easy way to test new software of unknown or dubious source.

When I have an issue with multi-cam, rather than try to figure out the takes, I create new tracks above the multi-track, one track for each take, then keypad up each take to its own track. I find it a lot easier to isolate a problem this way (the old-fashioned method) than to go back to expanding the multi tracks, which almost always let me screw something else up.

Performance, perhaps not. But, fix your computer. I am not a gambling man but I’ll bet you a lunch (whenever we are in the same city) that you have some driver issues. Most likely the video drivers.
