I can see your point. I agree that nowhere in the email or on the order page does Sony tell the buyer that Version 11 won’t work on a discontinued O/S.

So, your computer was already crashing while running Vegas 10, and you somehow expected a new version of Vegas would fix your computer?

I wouldn’t even recommend trying running Vegas 7 on an XP. I don’t recall anyone on the Cow that has been successful, but there are one or two on the SCS forum. But, why ask for problems?
There is no direct “Upgrade” path from XP to Win 7. But, what are you waiting for? Win 7 is the most stable and best release of the Windows O/S ever. If your PC can handle 64-bit, then you will really appreciate the improvements. Buy a new hard drive, 1Tb is still around $40 at New Egg. Install Win 7 on it. If you really want to go back, swap the XP hard-disk for the Win 7 HD and you’re back to where you started. (Using a new disk and a fresh O/S install also lets you clean up the years of collective application detritus on your hard-disk).
You can do a clean install on a new hard-disk using the Win-7 upgrade disk. This is a Microsoft-approved process. Just install Win 7, and when the install asks for the software key, ignore it. This will install Win 7 as a demo. Then run the upgrade again, as an upgrade. This time, enter the key when asked, register the program and you’re done.

I also have BCC7 but I have little experience with it. If you aren’t doing any keyframing, then it should be fairly easy to drop a BCC7 filter/FX in place of the New Blue. It appears that BCC7 F/X do render faster than New Blue F/X, but that’s based on a very brief use of BCC7.

I suspect the New Blue F/X is the bottleneck in your workflow. I have noticed that when I use New Blue F/X, the encode time goes way up. A five minute video took hours to encode for Web use.

No. Some have gotten it to work, but this begs the question of why would you want to install the program on an unsupported O/S and in fact, a discontinued O/S?

CPU usage is a very poor indicator of system performance. All this tells you is that the CPU is not the bottleneck in your process. What format are you encoding and what F/X do you have on the timeline?

How high is “UP”?
No one can possibly advise you without knowing how you plan to deliver the video. As a general rule, shoot and edit in the highest resolution possible. Only downres it when you encode or render the final product.

As long as your SCS purchases are registered, you can download them anytime from “My Products” on the SCS web site.

According to the SCS email, you have until the end of November to get the $149 upgrade price. You can upgrade from any version of Vegas – and some people do only upgrade every other release.
