  • Does anyone know if Vegas will honor upgrade pricing from 10? Does he have to wait for the next upgrade offer?

    I only paid full price once, back when I bought SVP9. Ever since then I’ve watched closely and got in on the $139.00 upgrade; just had to time it right when the new versions were released.

    Great Post as usual, Dave.

    I’m sure I am not the only one on this forum who notices that although you don’t post as much many others (for example me!) ,when you do jump in, it is always insightful, accurate and clearly worded.

    I would add that I have a (perhaps irrational) fear of relying on things beyond my control, be it “cloud” email, cloud backup, ransomware, or even just riding with someone else in a car. Back when I used to fly, even though I was a crappy pilot, I was never frightened when at the controls – even when sweating crosswind landings in hail. But, each time I climbed into the belly of an airliner, I was slightly white-knuckled.

    The thought of having all my work be inaccessible because my subscription to ransomeware has lapsed, or the company folds, is nightmarish!

  • I really like Red 101:

    Good article on chroma sub-sampling, not sure if it applies to the banding problem, but still good to know.

  • Hi Jerry;

    The benchmark was actually written for SVP11, but of course it can be used with SVP12.

    When I first discovered it last month I was very happy – of course it leads to all kinds of questions and confusion, but I have learned a lot since then!

    Edited Typo – Cloning the C: drive did not cause problems. I forgot the key word “NOT” – sorry

    Based on this report:

    https://techreport.com/review/25681/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-testing-data-retention-at-300tb

    I bought a Corsair Neutron GTX 480 GB for my primary C: drive . (I cloned my previous drive and Windows 7 was NOT upset when after the boot it found itself on a new drive). The Neutron seemed to have the most consistent performance over time.

    Have fun! My computer is faster in general, although it did not make a lick of difference to Vegas. My render project are not IO bound, they are CPU and GPU bound.

  • Thanks Norm;

    Yea, I am willing to pick and choose in Vegas and put up with having to restart when I want to render MainConcept with the Quadro 2000.

    I’m curious about this, though:

    [Norman Black] ” The HD graphics giving access to Quicksync for encoding in Sony AVC”

    I’m very ignorant of the Intel Quicksync option. I had thought that was something dependent on the motherboard, but what you wrote makes me think it is a capability of the graphics card?

    Help,
