    May 14, 2009 at 5:13 am in reply to: Animation codec in FCP – problems

    I had problems like this and found that FCP was getting the field order wrong for imported animation clips.

    I have found that FCP defaults to Upper fields first, then if this clip is placed on a Lower field first sequence, FCP adds a shift fields filter, which then really throws things out, espcailly if the animation was rendered Lower fields first.

    I beleave the “Best” default in AE is no fields, however, FCP maybe treating the footage as upper fields. Check the item properties and check that the field dominance is correct. If it is incorrect any clips on the timeline will need to be corrected, and also check the shift fields filter has been applied and remove it if it’s there.

    Thanks for the help guys, makes sense now, I think I must have suspected something like that to try floor, but supprised to find it here.

    This reminds me of this fun little trick that used to work in the MacOS calculator, however it still works in AE.

    Create a text layer and place the following code in the source text property.

    t = 1 – 0.9;
    t = t – 0.1;
    t

    It only works with 0.9 first.

    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Ok, Sorry to reply to myself, but after sending I had an idea, but I would still like to understand why I’m getting the result I’m getting.

    vars =
    “13,-1,13,13,L,NW, ,14,L,SW, ,14,L,E, ,14,L,N, ,14,L, , “.split(“,”);
    TargetCell = effect(“CurrentCell”)(“Slider”);
    temp = vars[Math.floor(TargetCell)]

    If I floor TargetCell before using TargetCell I get the correct result,

    Thanks Dan,

    That’s what I suspected, but just thought I would ask incase I was missing something. Looks in my case that I’m going to have to create 30+ precomps, oh well.

    Thanks for your help.

    January 17, 2006 at 4:14 am in reply to: Studio Graphics Recall Application.

    Hi,

    Isn’t Motion for the creation of motion graphics.

    Sorry I must have confused people, I’m looking for a program for the output of graphics to a vision mixing desk. We would like to be able to play graphics, but would also like the application to have basic title ability.

    Thanks,
    Stephen

    >How were your original clips captured? Did you capture now? Log and >capture? Batch capture?

    From memory I think it was capture now, as there is still timecode attached to it I didn’t think it would be a problem.

    Thanks,

    January 7, 2006 at 9:23 pm in reply to: FCP Importing Lower Field as Upper Field

    Hi,

    Thanks for the response, but I have checked all the audio/video settings and it is all set to PAL – DV and lower first. And I’m defiantly rendering from after effects as lower first. I have tried removing prefs to FCP but that didn’t fix it.

    Thanks,
