Perhaps it’s just me, but I recall going to trade show and an exhibitor providing USB thumb drives which, we were told, contained and a PowerPoint presentation and documentation.
Again, perhaps it’s just me, but I wouldn’t stick a stranger’s thumb drive in my computer.

Just upgraded to Mavericks (after cloning system drive) from Snow Leopard and everything seems to be working fine.
Only quibble is that, so far, I can’t upgrade Protools 10 to 11, which isn’t yet compatible with Mavericks, according to Avid.

I’m just finishing a project in FCP7, and will be moving to another platform, and company. Seems to me the choice is between Avid and Adobe, both are offered by companies committed to and dependent upon the creative community. Apple is not. Apple is more committed to and dependent upon, I suggest, consumer device and content sales, rather than content creation.

I have a GH2 and will be shooting a feature film with it starting on 25 June–Saving Dinah. I wouldn’t waste money on the Canon 5D MkII, not because it’s not a truly fine camera that shoots great video, but because it just doesn’t matter. The differences between the images of all these cameras is imperceptible from an audience’s viewpoint.
If I had the money to spend that you have, I’d invest in fine sound equipment, and perhaps camera support equipment. Stuff that weathers the passage of time (my tripod an O’Connor 50D was built in 1972).
Better yet I’d go to Trigger Street or Ink Tip, and see if I could option a great screenplay, because what really, really, really matters is the story.
Like all features today, no matter the cameras used, we’ll be releasing Saving Dinah in theaters equipped with D-Cinema projectors. I assure you no one in the audience can tell if a D-Cinema film was shot on a Red, an Alexa, a GH2, or a 5D. It just doesn’t matter.

Why are the hacks necessary? A standard Lumix GH2 at 24 fps, which is what you need to use for features, records video at 24 Mbps. Use the various hacks available and you’ll be recording at over 150 Mbps which produce a much better image, one that can handle without degradation color correction and effects.
However, rather than getting a 6-8 hours of video on a 32GB card, you’ll get about 30 minutes.

If it’s any help, we’ve just begun pre-production on a low/no budget feature, Saving Dinah, using Lumix GH2s. We’ll be shooting in August. We’re upgrading the GH2s with hacks and patches available at Personal-View.com. Audio will be acquired using Zoom recorders.
The plan is to shoot most scenes with two or even three of the cameras in order to be more efficient, and not push the actors and crew too hard.
With the hacks, and respecting the limitations of the cameras, we should have no trouble with final output suitable for D-Cinema.
At least, that’s the plan.

Daniel, if it’s any help what I’ve settled on would do well in your budget range. I use a Panasonic Lumix GH2 with hacks available from https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussions.
For sound, I use a double system. I mount a Zoom H4N on the hot shoe and connect it to the GH2 via a Sescom cable to allow monitoring. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/755857-REG/Sescom_LN2MIC_ZMGH_MON_3_5_Line_to_2_5.html. I have other mikes for interviews, which are connected to the Zoom with a cable or with a wireless system. Add a RedHead windscreen to the Zoom. https://www.redheadwindscreens.com/
The camera is mounted in a Trusmt cage (check them out on ebay) I have two stock GH2 lens plus a range of Canon FL primes. An old O’Connor 50D serves as a tripod, and I have light kit.
