I have some audio in a production that was recorded at 44.1 KHz rather than 48.0 KHz. I’d like to convert it to 48.0 KHz before exporting to Pro Tools.

What might be the preferred method to do the conversion? If I merely convert the original files that are on the hard drive, maintaining the file name, will that do the trick? Or do I need to convert the files, create new files and replace the 44.1 KHz files on the FCP Timeline with the new 48.0 KHz files.

If you are converting a ton of files, I’ll put in a good word for Digital Heaven’s “Loader.” It sits on the edge of the FCP UI — drag and drop audio files onto it, and it will convert and copy them to your project directory. Well worth the $29.99 I paid years ago.
