  • I’m going to go for the MII then. I agree, it’s probably no biggie over all.

  • Yep. The blog post above is what I used to setup my Pro Res workflow. Works great!

After researching, I think there is a bug in CS6 that prevents the previews from working. Another online user found a workaround that I’ve been able to use to make it work.

I’ll include the link here, but repeat the advice. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1039888
According to his updates this bug isn’t fixed until CC 2014.

    1) Render previews as you go set to the same codec as your sequence codec, in my case, Pro Res LT.
    2) Use Mercury Playback engine set to CUDA if you have a CUDA card.
    3) When finished with your project and ready to export, go to Project > Project settings
    4) Turn Mercury Playback engine to Software only. When asked whether you want to keep previews, say YES. (This means you are keeping the previews created while you had it set to CUDA.
    5) Now export.

In my case, the export went from 5 minutes (meaning it was re-rendering the entire sequence) to 40 seconds.

  • 5 minutes.

  • Yep, that’s correct. The GPU is not actually being used in this example.

But Premiere should still be able to pass the preview render files to the export process.

Unless you are saying that ALL third party effects have to re-rendered in full during export?

  • CS 6.0.5, btw. On a 3.46 GHz 6-core silver Mac Pro.

Thanks for the inof! Can I use 64GB cards in adapters with firmware 1.11?

The rental house says the firmware is 1.11.

Can I use adapters and 32gb sdhc cards?

Thank you all for your response. I think we’re leaning towards two EX1Rs. The change to all digital is not without worries. There have been many times when tape has saved us on a shoot, and its an easy and cheap way to archive footage. Sounds like sticking to SxS cards is the best idea. We’ve never lost a days shoot with the Z1Us, and we certainly don’t want to start now.

Make sure you’ve changed your Expose settings first if you want to use F11. Otherwise, all your windows will go whooshing away. (Clicking the blue Replace edit squares or dragging the new clip to the Replace overlay on the Canvas works as well).
