Replace Clip…
Posted by Dan Nethery on May 9, 2008 at 4:59 pmIn After Effects I can select a clip in the timeline, then click and drag a clip from the bin wile holding ALT and drop it on the selected clip in the timeline. It will replace the clip and keep all of the effects and setting from the old clip.
How do I do that in FCP?
Thanx, dan.

May 9, 2008 at 5:37 pmMake sure you’ve changed your Expose settings first if you want to use F11. Otherwise, all your windows will go whooshing away. (Clicking the blue Replace edit squares or dragging the new clip to the Replace overlay on the Canvas works as well).

May 10, 2008 at 1:59 amfor extra credit take note that F11 disregards marked in and outs, it works on playhead position replacing the clip under the playhead in the timeline with the clip in the browser so that the two playhead positions match up
more of the same goodness can be found with the venerable copy/paste functions
select the source clip and press cmd c to copy
then choose the target clip press opt-v to paste attributes and select video content and/or audio “content” (and whatever other attributes you may want to bring from the original)
