Codecs come with the drivers: http://blackmagic-design.com/support/software/

Iphone requires an mpeg 4 with an .m4v file extension, 480×270 or 320×180. FCP 7’s share function makes a really good Iphone file and will run in the background, but takes a while… if you choose to upgrade.

Can also do this when authoring a DVD in DVDSP.

Turns out I had other issues which required creating a new user and now all is working as expected.
