  • I haven’t seen something like this as stock, but it seems like it would be really straightforward to just build it. Create the basic timeline with dates and circles in Illustrator. Break it into layers and create a before/after state (think themometer kind of thing), bring the layers individually into AE.

Create a mask out of a solid that moves to reveal the “active” portion of the timeline. You could have the circles or dates grow or pulse or something and if feeling ambitious, tie everything into a small set of expressions that links the x-position of the reveal mask to the scaling of the circles.

Now go have some fun with it.

You can replace any item in the timeline with another item by selecting the object in the timeline, select the new fine in your bin, hold option, and drag and drop onto the timeline oject. Should swap them right out. I just did this on a project where I did a rough voice-over track and had a studio do the final. I’m not sure if it’s the option key on a Windows machine so you might want to double-check that.

That’s what I thought but wasn’t sure as it isn’t specified anywhere. At least nowhere I looked. And some packages are upgradable so thought it best to check. That’s why I was hoping to upgrade via the Motion 2 -> Studio method that’s been bandied about the forum.

Thanks. That makes my life easier. I just hope my Tiger upgrade goes smoothly. Here’s crossing the fingers.

Great stuff. You’re both basically doing what I’ve been doing but always good to hear what others are up to. The piece I am working on now has “real” shots, combinations of 3D and real and still 3D shots. It will have a very stylized look to it so shouldbe pretty easy to carry things over through all formats.

I did have one thought that I think I’ll try out. For matching a grain/noise pattern to a specific camera, I was thinking of simply shooting some black or lens cap and then using that as an overlay on the still footage. Might be interesting. Kind of in the same way you record the ambiance of a room for audio.

That’s pretty much what I do now. I have run shows with 8 DVD players of the same make and model and when the power up they end up syncing up pretty well. I am just hoping to find a solution to get things tighter though using the one remote method is pretty tight. Thanks!

Thanks, just what I was looking for though unfortunately a bit expensive for the project. I’ll definitely look at these for some of the projects where I need to sync up six or more machines.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I’d love to hear them. For example, anyone know of a dual-disc DVD player that will play two at once? There was a company out there making dual VHS machines for awhile though I can’t remember their name. B&H was carrying their products but various searches and browsing hasn’t revealed anything yet.
