I am looking for suggestions on an animated timeline effect that I can then pull video segments out of for a historical video segment for a client of mine.

I have FCP HD…After Effects Prod. Bundle, Photoshop, Illustrator…and more…don’t know if there may be an animation out there that I could just buy and save time.

    Thanks all,

I haven’t seen something like this as stock, but it seems like it would be really straightforward to just build it. Create the basic timeline with dates and circles in Illustrator. Break it into layers and create a before/after state (think themometer kind of thing), bring the layers individually into AE.

Create a mask out of a solid that moves to reveal the “active” portion of the timeline. You could have the circles or dates grow or pulse or something and if feeling ambitious, tie everything into a small set of expressions that links the x-position of the reveal mask to the scaling of the circles.

Now go have some fun with it.

I wasn’t paying attention to which forum I’m in. I would do the whole thing in After Effects and bring it in to lay over the footage in FCP. You could also do this in Motion.

Wow…I did not even think about using Motion…doh!
