Hi guys,
I can’t describe how much I feel like a donkey now.
After decades working on PC, I’ve decided to try MAC, so recently I bought a new Mac Pro 6 core, with D500.
FCP 7 is out of question now (its old, slow and outdated), FCP X is s**t), so I decided to go with Adobe CC/Resolve combination.
BUT
After few days, I’ve realized that 16 GB is not enough, and that MAC OS is much worse in Memory management than Windows 7/8, so I have to order expensive 32 Gb in order to avoid OUT OF MEMORY errors (haven’t seen in in Windows since 2000!!!) I was trying to use MULTIPROCESSING on Aftereffects, and it turn out to be slower in render than my 3 years old MSI notebook.
After unpacking machine, I’ve updated to 10.9.3, and since first project I have big problems with Premiere and Resolve.
I am getting weird lines during playback of RED or SONY f5 files, Premiere is hanging on GPU exports, Resolve is damn slow and just quits randomly….
Ist this THE MAC I was listening about for years….All these people nagging how Mac is cool, superior, this , that….???? OS that breaks GPU support for Adobe and Resolve??? WTF????
I feel like throwing this ugly trashcan trough the window, really….^$^&#^#^#!!##@@#
I am seriously thinking to install WIN 8 on trashcan… I guess It will work much better!

November 3, 2011 at 9:45 am in reply to: FYI – BLACKMAGIC does not support PAL PROGRESSIVE videoHi Andrew….
please see my new post below, so you can get a clearer picture of what is my problem.
https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/124/878205
I understand that PAL is interlaced format by standard, but in that case BMD should have some solution to make progressive videos (mostly animations) going out of their hardware correct, and not jagged and deinterlaced.
To be honest, I do not know how to use waveform to check is this ok sygnal quality, but visually I can see that Progressive video going out on BMD is shown as deinterlaced, without proper re-sampling to interlaced video….

Hi Mark,
please see attached 2 images, and You will see what is my problem.
Source file is uncompressed Microsoft Avi, 25p, exported from After Effects.1. BMD sequence is: PAL, widescreen (I got the same look in upper field sequnce or progressive sequence settings). File is interpreted as progressive in project window.
2. Other sequence is NON BLACK MAGIC, DV PAL WIDESCREEN,(its is NO FIELDS, but it looks the same if sequence setting is upper field).File is interpreted as progressive in project window.
Spot the difference on golden bar edges – this is what I am crying for!

Hi, thanks for your detailed and kind answer…
I did few tests:
I upscaled my video to 720p, and then played it from BMD 720 p sequence, and it looks nice on my PAL CRT, just slightly blured (I guess it is from hardware down conversion to PAL.) Same video from PAL sequence, looks very bad, with jagged edges…
I am at home now, but will post how it looks in Premiere tomorrow…Also, can you explain – what is the best way to interpolate my 25p animation to 50i?

Hi guys, I just have received the most ridiculous answer from Blackmagic.
According to them BLACKMAGIC HD EXTREME does not support PAL PROGRESSIVE sygnal, and that’s why I get deinterlaced output on monitor and DIGIBETA……Strange, but true….. 🙂See below:
***********************
Hi Slobadan,Thank you for your email.
The Decklink HD Extreme cards do not support progressive PAL signals. The outputs will always show an interlaced output if you are feeding it with PAL. I’m afraid that there is no way I can think of to get around this as it’s simply not something the card supports.
If I can help further however, please do get back to me.
Regards

Hi,
I am monitoring it on CRT monitor. I have the same output on preview from Blackmagic, and also on Throughput from Digibeta….
Something is definitely wrong….I made few tests today, and YES, Blackmagic is deinterlacing Progressive video when playing out from timeline!

November 27, 2010 at 5:43 pm in reply to: Premiere CS4 Titler text coming out pixelated in my QT export! The main problem here is in sequence settings.
Make custom sequence which is not in fields (to be progressive).
When you export, export as progressive also, also check BEST QUALITY OUTPUT and you will not have this problem.
This is a common error in Premiere CS4, they have fixed it in CS5

August 28, 2010 at 10:56 am in reply to: Decklink HD Pro + Snow Leopard + FCP = CrashWe have the same problem in our studio with Decklink HD Pro, FCP and with Premiere CS5 too on new MAC PRO machine with 8 cores.
Constant crashes and hangs…
I have contacted support, and they say they know about the problem for Premiere, and they are still working on fix it….probably the same thing is with FCP….I guess it is a problem with Snow Leopard mostly and not with your hardware…..
Let us know what happened…..

August 28, 2010 at 10:50 am in reply to: switching from old computer and cs4 to new one with cs5Hi,
finish all your working projects in CS4 (Premiere cs4 4.2 is still coming with installation of CS5 production premium as extra gift for 32 bit users). You can have both installed on your machine.
Regarding old projects – just make sure that your external drive is same letter on new computer, or copy files from your external drive to internal with same drive letter (e: , f: …etc…)
