My solution using three cameras was to use keyframes and opacity. After I got all the video synced on their own tracks, I simply used 0% opacity on the top track to cut it out let track 2 be visible. If I wanted to see track 3, then I set the opacity of track 2 to zero as well over some section. I was then able to drag the keyframes right and left to adjust the transition points.
The only draw back is that with a few color correction effects added, the video will not play in real time for any lenght of time. If this is an issue for you, you can always razor blade at the keysframes and simply delete the sections that were at 0%.

The web is just so great. No more than 15 minutes after I posted this question than I found the answer. My AVI was a static frame with 14 seconds of music. As an option, Premiere will optimize this by adding the music, but only one frame of video and some kind of code to tell the player the image does not change. Encore seems to gack at this. So under the render settings turn off Optimize Stills.

Fred,
I to am getting the invalid AVI error 26400. The AVI in question is not a single frame but much shorter than any of my other clips. It is the video for my main menu loop. It clocks in at 14 second and 16 frames. As far as I can tell, the files were encoded the same way. Both came out of Premiere’s Render Movie using the same settings.
Any ideas?

You sir are a genious. You have removed my posterior from the sling several time now. Thank you so much.

Steven,
Why bother to cut at all? I used ‘hold’ keyframes and that seems to be working. Am I missing something?

Thanks to all that replied to this thread. The opacity trick was just what I needed. I simply added out a bunch of opacity ‘hold’ keyframes on the top video. I then just moved them around to cut out the bad sections in that footage. First level editing of a one hour show was done in one evening.
I did not try the 50% reduction trick. I may still, but so far the edit points have been fairly obvious.
Thanks to all.

All it involves is a caustic letter to Adobe and looking for a
different effect to write the credits in. The raindrop effect
using blobbyrize was just perfect for my under/above water
animation. -
Yes I have the educational version. I just dug deeper at Adobe and came up with the same answer. That ticks me off as I was very careful to read what the difference between the versions was. Their website said “NO DIFFERENCES”. Grumble, grumble.
Time to implement plan B.

I too would love a zip file! This effect might be perfect for a LEGO animation I am making.

I have never had good luck with audio cards in PCs. Even more so in laptops. Noise from the electronics always seems to be present in the recordings. Often what I hear is the electronic noise caused by the hardisk heads. I solved my problems by purchasing an Edirol UA-25. I now have crystal clear recordings at up to 96kHz. Device has 2 XLR inputs and provides phantom power. It connects to your system via USB. Other models exist that have different options including Firefire.
