On this same topic, this from the manual seems to me to be a terrible idea:
After importing your source media files into Final Cut Pro, you may find that you need to create additional Events to organize your media. For example, after importing media shot for a specific client, you may decide to split the media into Events defined by the location the media was shot in; or split the media by the time of day it was shot, such as morning, afternoon, and evening.
Excalt how you don’t want to be organizing your media, surely?
Meanwhile, I have to say I am really warming to your idea the more I work with it!

Just found this in the manual which validates your theory completely:
Effectively, each compound clip can be considered a mini project, with its own distinct project properties.
The manual compares them to FCP7 nests, but actually they are far more powerful as you are suggesting.

I really like what you’re doing there – looks a great way to get organised.
Do you reckon this could be a template structure that can be adapted for new Events? I like to work using project templates in FCP7 (I often use PostHaste for this) because I know my bin structure is going to be more or less the same from project to project (boy, the “old” language suddenly feels a bit weird!).

I’m obviously not expressing it clearly – the financial papers will have picked up that the professional editing community is in an unprecedented uproar and this will impact, however minimally, on Apple’s market position. One of the main reasons (perhaps the only reason!) Apple are in the NLE business at all is to garner the credibility that attaches to its “Hollywood” credentials – this again is all about Wall Street and nothing to do with units shipped.

I’m not a financial expert but the stock doesn’t go up or down depending on how many units of a particular product are sold, it goes up or down based on the market’s view of how well a particular corporation is performing in the market place and one of the biggest barometers for that is the court of public opinion especially as expressed through the financial papers and similar forums. On that basis Apple could be taking a bit of a knock this week, though there is no doubt that they will have bounced back by Monday with some thrilling announcement about a pretty new mobile phone!

then click on the little printer icon in the top right hand corner, select “book”, then from your print menu, select save as PDF (bottom right hand corner of the print dialogue).
No need to physically print it unless you’ve got a thing against the rainforest!

Look, guys, seriously! Don’t give your hard-earned money to these third parties, charming and well-intentioned as they may be. Read the Manual, as they say (not always politely) – this really is an absurdly easy app to learn, about as “shallow” as it gets right now. If you really can’t get your head round it, go see Larry and Steve and have your hand held through stuff you probably already know anyway, but save your pennies for later if you possibly can.
