You’ll need to scroll down till you see the post from Pedro de la Fuente. He ended up going the slightly roundabout X27 route, which sounds like it’s a better option for now.

Actually I’m hoping someone with more experience of it will chime in here and say there’s nothing to worry about with Automatic Duck/FCPX, all you need to do is X, Y or Z …
But I get the feeling (which could be completely wrong) that very few people have actually tried it yet – there’s been only one discussion about it using it so far in these forums that I’ve seen, and that came up because someone else had a less than ideal experience.
You’ve also got to remember that there is now no-one to turn to at Automatic Duck if you have problems – and for that reason alone I’d be a bit concerned about using it for your project.

From the admittedly limited tests I have done with AD and FCPX, I’d advise you to be very wary of using it in a real world situation until you’ve looked into all the issues.
My main concern (among others) is that once you detach an audio clip from its video “parent”, AD seems to lose all notion of what it’s meant to be.
Maybe this is down to specific problems with my tests, but do check out that this at least will work reliably in the context of your project before going ahead.

either that or FCPX isn’t liking Prores LT…”I ran a test of your workflow – FLV to MPEG Streamclip, export ProResLT (640×360), import into FCPX (copying file to Events folder). Clip plays fine in the Browser, and when edited into a 1080 timeline.
I’d suspect that it might be how you are exporting from MPEG Streamclip … could you let use know your export settings?

That would work for sure.
I just wonder whether secondaries don’t ultimately give you more power in terms of the way FCPX actually works – CCs are just (not very) glorified nests, whereas secondaries have all interesting added potential that comes from them emulating the functionality of the primary storyline. Plus they are already “open containers” of the kind you are describing …

Personally, I’d like to see them expand the capabilities of secondaries so they behaved more like compound clips, as I’ve mentioned before.
I’m not a big fan of having to dive into hidden drawers or containers to see what’s going on – one of the reasons I prefer working in Motion to After Effects actually. I think the whole AE precomp business is a major drawback and very clumsy.
In my view all interfaces want to be aspiring to (if not entirely emulating) the power of nodal systems where every relationship is potentially visible.
But that’s just me …
I much prefer what secondaries give mne in FCPX to what I see are the limitations of CCs – if only secondaries could have effects applied to them and allow for connected clips …

Two ways of doing this:
Either go to the Inspector/Spatial Conform tab and choose Fill from the selector; or select the crop tool from beneath the Viewer and choose Crop (more flexibility because you can choose the area that will fill the frame).
