Can I just mention that Gregory Clarke has just responded to my feedback and is already looking into it? Very impresssive.
I hope my original post didn’t sound critical of the incredible guys at Intelligent Assistance who have done an amazing job and seem to be responding really quickly to any issues that get flagged.

Yup, the latest version downloaded just this morning (and latest FCPX). Original FCPX Project was at 24fps.

Yes, you’re right – all the non-sync audio (from various different sources, including for example sound effects) is zero start. A probable diagnosis but not a solution unfortunately.

For some reason they seem to hjave taken it down – this is what it used to say on the subject:
Install Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, or Compressor 4 on the same disk as Final Cut Studio (2009)
If you are unable to install on a separate partition, this is an alternate method.
From the Apple () menu, choose Software Update. Install the following updates if they appear in the list:
Mac OS X v10.6.8 or later
ProKit Update Version 7.0
The latest versions of the Final Cut Studio (2009) applications
Purchase Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, or Compressor 4 from the Mac App Store. The app you purchase will begin downloading automatically, and the app icon will be added to your Dock with a progress bar below the app icon. Once the app is done installing, the progress bar below the app icon will go away.When you install Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, or Compressor 4 on the same startup disk as Final Cut Studio (2009), the Final Cut Studio (2009) applications are moved to a new location (/Applications/Final Cut Studio).
To verify that the Final Cut Studio (2009) applications operate correctly, open Motion 4, and then quit Motion 4.Important: Make sure to open Motion 4 first, before opening any other Final Cut Studio (2009) applications.
You can now use Final Cut Studio (2009) and Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, or Compressor 4 on the same system, from the same startup disk.
Note: Final Cut Server, Podcast Producer, Software Updates for Final Cut Studio (2009), and some third-party workflows and tools may require that the Final Cut Studio (2009) applications remain in their original location in the Applications folder.

Sadly, I have no meaningful “worfklow” that involves FCPX – and I will never have one until OMF (at least) is introduced as an integral and totally robust part of the application.

I’ve probably misunderstood what you’re saying, but surely the PSD automatically updates without any extra interaction – at least that’s what it does for me insofar as it updates at all. What is the specific relinking process you are suggesting?

Agreed, that’s the way to handle it under the circumstances, but the irritating this is how little you can actually update and it carries through to FCPX.
If even a simple transform doesn’t translate then it’s of very limited value in the kind of dynamic linking sense that I think Mark and I were hoping for.

It certainly looks a bit flaky in operation to say the least.
I haven’t had time to look very closely at this yet, but it does seem as though only very basic updates are reflected when you resave the original PSD in Photoshop.
I could change the colour of a text layer perfectly well, but most other changes didn’t show up – disabling or deleting layers certainly doesn’t seem to update or even something as simple as changing a layer’s position.
(And I can’t even get the layer styles to come through which seems a bit limited.)
I could be doing it completely wrong but I don’t think so.
For now it’s clearly best to save a flattened version (in the old way) rather than trying to use the new layer options – unless all you want to do is basic stuff like changing a text colour.
