Hi Dale,
I’ve done some asking around and unfortunately there is no magic bullet for this as far as I can tell. The only way to do this cleanly is to “Key” the footage first. In Ae or NUKE or in a similar application. There is the option to use a KEY color in the Alpha channel, but to place an image in the “Alpha Channel”, only makes sense if the image has an alpha channel included.
To a certain degree you can use the Layer transparency, but this will not get the best results. The “Layer Transparency” is a pre-multiplied image, and without the Alpha channel, which created the transparency in the first place, you might not un-premultiply successfully to get a clean alpha channel back.
You might want to check what green screen you have been using, as there is a fine art to it. Those in the know say that simply adding a green screen behind your target will unlikely yield you the results you may be after.
Hope this helps you.

Hi Dale,
Right now I am coming to the end of a 48 hr drinking session. In fact, I have just poured a 15 year old single malt into my eyeball. Needless to say, I doubt I can think of a cogent answer. If it were nit for spell check I think this reply would be incomprehensible garbage.
However, I believe in signs. I believe the fact that you have responded to my initial answer to my own post is a sign that I need to start animating again.
I have not done an animation in over 14 months. In fact I haven’t even opened cinema for that time. But thanks to the random nature of Internet communications I will once again delve into this world to find you an answer.
My answer pre research is one if the following:
Key in after effects first. ( dirty solution )
Maybe a material setting ( plastic, metal, colour tweak, etc)
I will have sobered up in a couple of days and hopefully I will be in a better condition to find a solution to your problem.
Time to go blind!

Don’t forget that if it is a still you are after you can fake it with the use of masks and a cloner. Might need some keyframing to achieve the look you’re after but still possible.

This is the best I could get using mograph and rigid body to prevent overlaps. However, I feel you are going to need more control.

February 17, 2010 at 10:10 am in reply to: Building a person in C4D out of blocks??Once you have got a character rigged in the right position you could use the cloner object to fill the rigged character using the clone to object setting.
In the cloner set your object as the characters mesh and make the mesh invisible. You can control the way the clones fill the characters space and even animate if you wish.

How about using the model in a boole and animating a stack of slices into it so that the boole only reveals the part of the slices that fall into the models shape?

Reading again, it may also be a dynamics caching issue. Have you used a cache tag anywhere in the scene?

February 9, 2010 at 9:13 am in reply to: Best renderer plug in for animations in c4dI would have to say that you are best off sticking with C4D’s native renderer. Translation between cinema tags / attributes does not always transfer and some cumbersome workarounds are often required. This has a knock on effect on project time /ROI.
Spend some time learning advanced render and you can really achieve great images that will rival any plug.
