Tiff sequence not loading as video material
Posted by Simon Hutchinson on June 25, 2009 at 8:38 amI am working in R11 on 64 xp. The tiff sequence i have rendered out from AE on my mac is not being recognized as a sequence when i apply it to a material in C4D.
I have tried using the calculate function and manually adjusting the frames in the animation tab but no luck.
Any Ideas? Could it be an issue with Mac vs PC
TIA

June 25, 2009 at 3:10 pmI’m not sure, but a couple of thoughts: 1) are you using lzw compression? Used to be that Cinema didn’t like compressed tiffs. 2) could it be that Cinema uses QT to display tiffs, and there’s no 64 bit version of QT?

June 26, 2009 at 8:35 amI have tried tiffs, pngs, tga and even jpegs.
I have tried to manually dictate the frames that are played through the animation tab and i have used calculate. I have tried this on MAC and PC both R11.
The same thing keeps happening. Frame 1 loads and then i get a texture error when i move through the timeline. Cinema is clearly not recognizing image sequences of any kind. It has no such issues when i use movie files such as avi on pc and mov on mac.
for the first time since using C4D i am seriously considering swapping programs and all the BS that it will entail.

June 26, 2009 at 3:20 pmHmm, I’ve never heard of that problem before. If the files are named sequentially it should load right up. I suggest you contact Maxon tech support before you take the nuclear option.

September 28, 2009 at 8:44 amI’m back to answer one of my own questions again in the hope that someone else who is experiencing similar problems may be relieved of them easier than i was.
To load image sequences into a material, all of the image sequence needs to be placed into the tex folder of the project. Then load the sequence from there into a material in c4d and use the animation options to tailor to your needs.
Simple fix really, but not an obvious one.
Hope this helps.

April 23, 2011 at 10:12 pmTHANK YOU!!!! After a month of scouring the boards, forums and seedy back alleys of the internet, this was the answer. I am now getting bumper stickers made up that say “Jethro Hutchinson is my personal lord and savior!” You RULE!

April 24, 2011 at 2:51 pmThe odd part is that I’ve never had to put a sequence in the Tex folder whether it’s saved as a project or not, the images just all need to be in the same folder somewhere… are you both using 11 on XP 64?

May 1, 2011 at 7:57 pmBrian – I’m on R10.111
Jethro – let me pick your brain some more if you don’t mind. When I load the Tiff sequence it plays fine now so thanks again. It’s green screen footage and when I load the same tiff sequence to the alpha channel, it does remove the background fine but it also makes the video footage semi transparent. In fact, the same thing happens with still images unless they are solid black vs white. Is there a way to correct this? My option is to create an alpha matte and load that in the alpha channel?

May 1, 2011 at 8:40 pmHi Dale,
Right now I am coming to the end of a 48 hr drinking session. In fact, I have just poured a 15 year old single malt into my eyeball. Needless to say, I doubt I can think of a cogent answer. If it were nit for spell check I think this reply would be incomprehensible garbage.
However, I believe in signs. I believe the fact that you have responded to my initial answer to my own post is a sign that I need to start animating again.
I have not done an animation in over 14 months. In fact I haven’t even opened cinema for that time. But thanks to the random nature of Internet communications I will once again delve into this world to find you an answer.
My answer pre research is one if the following:
Key in after effects first. ( dirty solution )
Maybe a material setting ( plastic, metal, colour tweak, etc)
I will have sobered up in a couple of days and hopefully I will be in a better condition to find a solution to your problem.
Time to go blind!

May 1, 2011 at 8:57 pmJethro,
What’s important is the single malt. All other things are secondary. So drink, be merry and think of me, stuck with only blended in the house (deep sigh).
Read the rest of this message when sober 😉
I have pre-keyed in AE before importing into C4D but will play with the material settings too. Have fun! Chat soon.
