You could try using splines with sweep nurbs to model the cables, I assume that the cables don’t have to be animated.

You can select the whole object and make it editable which will turn it into one object.

You really should look at getting as much ram for the computer as you can. At the moment dual core processors are about a 50% speed boost over a single processor, in fact you get more of a speed boost from two single processors running in parallel then with a single dual core.

Remember that the speed of the final render has nothing to do with you graphics card, its all about processor speed and ram, the only thing SLI will help you with, if it is supported by Cinema is the number or polys Cinema can display in real time.

Its not on the market nobody makes it yet, lets say it is has enough power to drive 3 billion polygons on screen in real time, there is no website. I can’t tell you more details on how it works at the moment, since I am still working out gettting the system manufactured. And since this is only an informal poll to see if anyone would be interested. The system will satisfy your needs if your doing highend visualization, since at the moment I believe it the most powerful graphics system slated to be released. Unless there is some change very soon. And as for the cost its looking like for a low end system without a computer since this an external piece of hardware $2400, at the highend $6000.

What operating system are you using? And have you tried re-installing Cinema? And did the problem happen gradually over time or was it one day it worked and the next it didn’t?

Since you need to get up to speed quickly and you use After Effects, I would say that Cinema is a good option. It is easier to learn then Lightwave or Maya and with the direct After Effects integration it sounds like it would be a good fit for your purposes.

    Best of Luck
