Thanks…
My main issue with intel, is that there is no 64bit support, which means on the scientific end of things… its not as good, and at the moment, the Quad Core out performs the intel macs by a lot, esp on the math end, also I have a lot of work put into optimizing on altivec. And from what I can tell, intel’s plans on the 64bit end are a future that may be sometime coming…
I am not too concerned about the software end ie lossing compatibility since apple will have to hold onto universal binary for about as long as classic at least…
The other really big issue is that two pieces of software I use Combustion and Photoshop are not on intel, and those I need good performance on… no matter what…
As to the first question the computer is not essential… right away… I could wait till 2007 not a problem…
Its just that I don’t see 64bit coming out by then on intel and at the moment 64bit is worth a lot for my current projects… and future ones…
the quad core seems to be the best balance for scientific, video, and animation…

June 19, 2006 at 4:42 am in reply to: Any suggestions on Expanding my hard drive.Personally no matter what type of video you are doing I would go with a second internal drive for media, and an external fw for scratch space.
Depending on how much you want to spend, I would look into an SATA bus and then do an internal SATA raid… but this will really depend on the type of video you are doing… the scratch no matter what I would go with Lacie, I like their bus architecture better… and they are the most reliable company I have used…

Use curves for greater color seperation of shadows from the rest of the image and then go from there… it seems to me it would be better to get a clean plate with no people just the background and then just layer that in…

I personally wouldn’t do it, due to the fact that there is a distinct possibility that you’ll damage your computer…
It may effect fcp if it splits your video ram, esp. if you do RT and HD stuff, in fact if I recall you have to have 32mb or vram for FCP to run…

How big is the shadow area?
Did you try curves, and levels, to remove them?

Its a util that you run in the terminal to check the xml code of your plist files…

Hopefully you can get whoever made the file to save it to a useful format.. but if not check around…
