    Thanks for the response guys, unfortunately the scaling is still not sharp enough for the crisp video I’m using. Before I upgrade to FCP 5 I’ll continue to upscale my video through after effects for now.

    Depends on what you mean by ‘Film Effect’. You can take the edge off video by de-interlacing or even the ‘Flicker Filter’ works a treat. Either of these will soften the nasty fields that video has. I’m in Pal land and this is what I do.

    Crushing the blacks and messing around with Gamma will also give your pictures more oomf as well.

    There should be plenty of posts on the Cow with further detail.

    Even if I zoom as little as 102% my image is still going soft. I’ve been pumping my footage through After Effects if I want to do any image enlargement. Any other methods apart from the Motion>Scaling option?

    If you’re using Osx it could be Entourage having a conflict. I had the same issue, try quitting Entourage and everything should come good.

    that’s amazing. I didn’t expect such a thorough response including previews and project files!! Thanks alot base80, and other friendly posters for your time, energy and knowledge to solve this problem for me. The cow is certainly one of the best online communities on the web today.
