thanks, again. I will try filming on battery alone today..
I think for capture, the plug in is recommended.
Someone recommended that I lower the volume to ZERO when recording to filter out noise. But that didn’t work.

Interesting.. so would the built in mic in camcorder have circumvented noise by running on battery alone when recording.
If I plug in an external mic, it would have to be analog?
I like my Yeti but it’s USB.

Thanks for you input. Thing is, I need my tutorials up pronto with a semblance of auditory and visual clarity. I must say that my DCR TRV has a pervasive rolling noise.. no matter. So I posted my blog with the embedded video. The content is good, but all the rest, as far as recording clarity is not. Today, I used the iMac 21, did NOT edit and got the crystal clear sound with YETI. Like night and day. With Vegas, I do some serious editing when I have to. I have no experience with iMac.. but hands down I’m getting good downloads on the MEDIUM setting with took an hour for 11 minute footage. Yesterday on Vegas, given my settings, for 8 minutes, it took about 10 minutes..

thanks for the great advice. I discovered after trial and error that I had the AVI file you mentioned.. so I switched to WMV. So the upload moved quicker but the quality was not good. My old settings vanished, as it were. And I now have a kind of square looking frame.. and better video–but not like before. I switched from 100KBS to 512KBS and typed in the ratio of 1.2121 but I think it reverted to the square.
I did pump up the video quality to 100% that used to be there automatically before. The settings were changed. It’s better now for the tutorial that runs 8 or so minutes. I was through the wringer on this one. But I hated the short romp I had with iMovie on my Mac. Yuck.
The other thing is I wonder if I can plug an external YETI mike into my sony camcorder, DCR nTRV 340.. and older model.. but better for me than the flashy stuff.Shirley Kirsten, pianist, teacher, blogger

for 8 minutes of video it gave me a 1.73 GB file.. Unheard of.. as I used to upload the same time in 15 or so minutes.. What’s up here.. Just because I introduce the same model camera, but a different one, why did this happen. why did the render settings not pick up the project properties 320×240 that processes much quicker..
My upload will take 8 plus hours. This is ludicrous. And how can I get the preview window..and the normal set up on the Vegas page?

just to mention that I have a PC Dell. and capture using the Dell.
Something is up here, and I have no idea what it is. I also can’t find my preview window.
I couldn’t use Vegas while I was waiting for my new camera.
That shouldn’t have anything to do with the Project Property settings and the render.

October 2, 2011 at 12:45 pm in reply to: no luck as it happened with new fire wire cardHi Mike, That was tried and camera was undetected so it seems to boil down to bad fire wire ports in both my DCR TRVs. Looks like I have to be aware of plugging in, and out, when camera is OFF with my next purchase.

October 2, 2011 at 5:33 am in reply to: no luck as it happened with new fire wire cardDecided to purchase Sony DCR-HC52 MiniDV Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom” I think I will have some familiarity with how I worked my former, now uncapturable camera footage. This is such a hassle. I am definitely not up on the technology. I do best playing the piano, period.
