no luck as it happened with new fire wire card
Posted by Shirley Kirsten on October 1, 2011 at 10:28 pmWe thought it would work. Tested today.. still no camera device detected in both my Sony camcorders:
DCR TRV 340. If it is the port for firewire on cam, why ON TWO. My settings are DV-Camera out which is ON. instructed by SONY tech support. Not working. I put my cam on VCR to capture.. I clicked options, for reconnect device. Checked Device Manager settings. All has been done. What do I do now? HOurs, days burned up… This relates to my 4 month old DEll where I do Sony Vegas editing.. Windows 7.
Can I possible use my Imac 21 with another video editing program until this is solved. I don’t want to invest in a brand new video cam at this time.Lex Gernale replied 14 years, 7 months ago 5 Members · 9 Replies -

October 2, 2011 at 12:30 amTry connecting the camcorder to a different computer that has a working firewire port.
I went through your other threads and a defective firewire port on your camcorder seems to be a strong possibility. -

October 2, 2011 at 2:08 amI’ll stick my beak in her again, mainly because I have seen this happen in the past for a few of reasons:
1. The original firewire chip in the computer has faulted and fried both your cameras’ firewire chips.
2. A faulty or miss-handled firewire cable has bent the tiny pins in the camera sockets.
3. Windows firewire port has been grabbed by a web cam.
4. And Murphy’s Law – both your cameras’ firewire chips went to Heaven together.Check device manager and see if the IEEE1394 adapter is recognised.
As Mike said, try the cameras on another computer, in which 1,2,3,4 above don’t apply if they work.
If you have Microsoft’s Movie Maker, see if that can see your camera.
Things like this are hard to diagnose remotely, and only a step-by-step process of elimination can point to the cause.

October 2, 2011 at 4:48 amErm….?
Is this the first capture session you’ve tried on this recent 4 month old Pc? If so, and this is the Win7, you might want to track down the driver for the 1394 card, and insure you have the LEGACY driver active.
This is a well known Win7 “default” for the 1394 card to use the latest 1394, not the LEGACY option. I had the exact same issue with VidCap NOT recognising any device.
Give it a whirl.

October 2, 2011 at 5:20 amI will hedge my bets that it’s number one.. fried…point of no return…
I want to get another cam.. but I am deathly afraid of very new technology.. Someone suggested Canon Elura 100 because I would have the cassettes I am used to.. and it would be compatible for Vegas and I movie. I movie also did not detect my cam.. Mac store told me to directly film from i mac.. and it was AWFUL.. piano sounded like tin.. really bad. That’s out of the question.. kaput finished. I just skype on my imac.. I need to get back to Vegas with a decent, user friendly cam.

October 2, 2011 at 5:33 amDecided to purchase Sony DCR-HC52 MiniDV Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom” I think I will have some familiarity with how I worked my former, now uncapturable camera footage. This is such a hassle. I am definitely not up on the technology. I do best playing the piano, period.

October 2, 2011 at 12:45 pmHi Mike, That was tried and camera was undetected so it seems to boil down to bad fire wire ports in both my DCR TRVs. Looks like I have to be aware of plugging in, and out, when camera is OFF with my next purchase.

October 3, 2011 at 1:40 pmi’ve encountered bend/broken pins either from Firewire Cable or Camcorder Firewire port from different cameras.
note that you cannot capture Video from old Digital 8 tapes recorded from DCR-TRV340 to new DCR-HC52 MiniDV
