[Craig Seeman] “Apple seems to be fragmenting and remixing in some odd configurations.
There’s iTunes movies which are rentals or purchases.
There’s the ability to buy songs.
    There’s the music subscriptions.
Now they’ll be original video content with the music subscriptions.
Then there’s AppleTV where you can get a pot-pourri of other services.
This is a very messy ecosystem IMHO.
Granted there’s probably seriously contract issues to sort through.

I’d really want a single elegant subscription service at least for all Apple’s services.”

Why wait for Apple, you can get this from Amazon today. ☺

    Hey Samuel,

It sounds like you’re really trying to generate a dense point cloud. You might not be able to do this with a particle system, but you might be able to do it with a 3D tracking system like Syntheyes, Boujou, PfMatchit or possibly AE. You already have the coordinates of the objects you want to represent, so you just need to put them in a format that a 3D tracker can understand. After that you’ll need to shade those points, but I imagine you could just generate a mesh from those points and then render the vertices – maybe using something like Trapcode Form.

[Andrew Kimery] “I recently worked on a doc about Net Neutrality and ISPs in the US and the situation is beyond a train wreck. While watching the interviews, as well as doing my own research because somethings get pretty complex, I had to get up and take a break at times because I got so steamed learning how screwed up things are.”

Wow, that bad… there used to be five or six ISPs in town, now there are two. It would be nice to hear the inside story of how it got that way. I know what happened in broad strokes, but the details have got to be interesting.

EDIT: I meant to ask if your doc had been released yet.

[Simon Ubsdell] “[Andrew Kimery] “If we reach a point in the US where data caps don’t exist and 1gig up/down is common place (or even 10gig up/down is affordable) then these problems obviously are reduced. ”

    Good grief!

I thought things were bad in the UK, but if you’re having issues with tiny file sizes like that you really do have problems.

Whereas in the rest of Europe, let alone Japan …!”

Even worse, we pay the highest rates for broadband access in the world. How much do you pay for a 20Mbps connection? In the US, the average is around $50.00 a month.

Yup, all we would need is a landscape where there are more than a handful of high speed internet providers, and common sense net neutrality principles codified into law. ☺

[Shane Ross] “[Shawn Miller] “Looking forward to a machine upgrade. ”

I wouldn’t look at Apple. They are too busy making things smaller and adding cute emoji bars. Making computers that can’t even connect to their own iPhones without an adapter. Haven’t updated the MacPro in over 3 years…and consider the iMac their “top of the line” desktop…and I’m sure they’ll keep pushing that.

Apple is losing a LOT of trust in me…a mac only user since 1990. Only thing keeping me on the OS is the need to encode to ProRes.”

I’m already a Windows user, but it seems like there are a lot folks who are expressing the same thoughts about Apple and the future of it’s desktop products.

Looking forward to a machine upgrade. I shot a lot of HD content on the 4.6k Ursa Mini for my day job last year, I think I’m ready to shoot personal projects in 4k this year… I just need a workstation that can handle the larger 10 and 12 bit files. I’ve also gotten to the point where my 3D renderers are starting to feel sluggish, so investment in more compute power (CPU and GPU) is a must!

[Mark Suszko] “Then why not laptops?”

You can put more RAM and a Xeon processor in a mini PC. It’s also not unusual for a company to assign multiple devices to a single employee, so lots of people have a workstation and a laptop or tablet.
