The lesson here for sure is: fixing in post is not the first order in the planning of a production, but when you have to fix it in post, exhaust all possibilities, understand the problem at hand, and see if there are ways to solve it beyond the obvious. Thanks Dave for the response. I actually learned from some software companies in my area that they do use Camtasia for their live shots, and if you look closely at the glasscubes video I sent, when the camera zooms into some areas, the picture is not as sharp as when it is zoomed out. Also knowing that the glasscubes video does not have an HD option with vimeo, it leads me to believe that they may have composed those shots in a non-HD comp. So I am going to give it a try and see if it works.

Thanks everyone for sharing your expertise- I am trying to accomplish this task with CC Cylinder and also with 3D Invigorator. I am able to get the cylinder object shape and able to rotate in “3d” with both plugins, but the challenge is making the cylinder look similar to the psd I uploaded in my initial question. With CC Cylinder, I need to apply the effect to a metallic and glossy texture that, as Dave LaRonde mentioned, I need to build. And I presume with 3D Invigorator, I need to use the Layer Map function of the plugin. But here’s my question- how can I go about creating a metallic texture that looks like the psd cylinder object’s surface? Many thanks for your suggestions.

I would like to confirm as well that updating my video card solved the issue of AVCHD garbled playback on my Premiere CS4 machine. Here was my problem: HD shot from an XDCAM would playback fine, but HDV footage brought in as AVCHD would play garbled in the timeline monitor– for some reason the source monitor showed normal playback, but not the timeline monitor. Simply updating cs4 to 4.0.1 did not work for me.

In case anyone could use the specs, I have CS4 on:

Windows XP Pro 32 bit, Version 2002, Service Pack 2
Pentium D 2.66Ghz
3.00 GB RAM
ATI RADEON X600 256MB (v 8.1) upgraded to X300/X550/X1050 Series
(v 8.591)
ATI RADEON X600 SECONDARY upgraded to X300/X550/X1050 Series Secondary (v 8.591)
