Thanks Thomas, I’m new to mac so I’ve had a bit of a look on-line but still a couple of questions I hope you can help with.

If I move from OS X 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard, is it a simple upgrade or do I purchase the full price snow leopard software?
If so, is changing the operating system pretty straightforward or would I need to do some backing up of settings etc?

You mentioned the possibility of 64 bit around Feb. If I upgrade to FCP 7 now, will the 64 bit change be a simple free update? Or should I wait until Feb to upgrade to 7?

    cheers

December 21, 2010 at 4:40 am in reply to: Ergonomics + shoulder pain

A follow up on the shoulder pain I mentioned. . .
I had an ergonomic assesment done, and as well as the expected postural & chair adjustment problems, the guy worked out where the aching left shoulder came from.
When I use my right hand for mouse work, I habitually lean on my left elbow, hand on chin. I do it ALL the time and had never noticed. I’ve been pushing my arm bone hard up into my shoulder socket for long periods. No wonder it aches.
Don’t know how I am going to break this habit. Maybe a sharp drawing-pin under the elbow will do it!

Wishing everyone an ache free ergonomically correct Christmas!

Michael can you tell me, is there any difference creating the compressor files directly from FCP versus exporting a quicktime first and then converting?
It seems to take a hell of a lot longer doing it direct from FCP and that’s edit time I can’t afford to lose.
If the difference is noticable I’ll do overnight conversions for the “special” projects.

December 15, 2010 at 5:33 am in reply to: Export vision for Avid

I’m going to cover all bases; A pro-res version (I think this company would have quite an up to date Avid system), plus the xd-cam version.

“Export SD as SD, HD as HD, and let the Avid editor worry about up/down convert if needed”
One query on this; When exporting the SD, the only xd-cam option is HD.

Thanks Pirate Bret, I didn’t realise you could just delete the background once it was set. I’m pretty sure the old versions didn’t let you do that.

Funny thing is, when I restarted photoshop today and tried again, “transparent” is no longer greyed out. I have no idea what has changed but everything is now as it should be.

I’ve selected preset 1080p (I’m using 1080i but it’s not an option). But the option to give it a transparent background is greyed out.

Ahh I should have recognised your photo.

Still, you are from overseas which makes you exotic.

“The advantage of MM creating a new project with just the online media is that you don’t get the nag screen telling you there is offline media every time.”

I kinda like the nag screen – it screams “Drive Space!” something we all crave. But, keeping the original project without media is a great solution – don’t know why I didn’t think of that.

Thanks everyone, you guys are fantastic. If you weren’t on the other side of the world I’d give you all something from my chocolate drawer.

    Cheers,
