Well, I’m on 2018.3 at work, and 2018-11 at home. But I don’t recall having this issue on any version. Can you RENDER AT POSITION? Make sure you are also choosing RENDER IN TO OUT and not EXPERT RENDER…Expert Render will skip realtime effects.

Yeah, sorry, you have to make the time. You can’t export MP4 directly from FCP…not even SEND TO COMPRESSOR will make an MP4. This software you are using is very old, 10+ years at this point, and at the time, MP4 wasn’t a necessity, so Apple didn’t do it. NOW they do, with current software. But yeah, older stuff…you’re going to need to make time for this.

MPEG STREAMCLIP can do this. Either compress the ProRes export, or, if you have an H.264 MOV file from Compressor, it can save it into an MP4 container.

As long as the footage is in with the native frame dimensions, and you use Frame Flex… 1800 divided by two is 900…so not QUITE 50%…I’d say 60% or so. No, this isn’t zooming in 160%…Frame Flex works backwards in that respect…you reduce the number, not increase it.
But you can also judge on an external monitor.

When you launched Avid after putting them there, did it look like it was creating a database…a progress bar pop up? If you look in that folder, do you see a .mdb file? Drag that into a bin and it should populate with those clips.

Yeah…what Dave said. Only I suggest exporting as a Quicktime Movie, using the SOURCE settings…meaning it won’t re-compress. It’ll just output a new file, no recompression. UNLESS your file is like MP4 or H.264, then it won’t. Then exporting PRoRes 422 is a good option.

Yes, if you deal with 1080p50 files, that will require faster hard drives than 1080p25…and SD. That’s a lot of frames. A good RAIDED hard drive (raid 0 or raid 5) will be able to deal with this. Maybe an SSD would as well. But yes, 1080p50 will need fast drives.

Is the footage 25fps to begin with? If so, converting to 50fps will gain you nothing at all…other than larger files. The source is still only 25fps so the 50fps will have one repeated frame. If your footage starts at 50fps, then capturing at 50p will look very smooth. This is great for sports and dancing, as the action is smoother.

IN some cases, it’s convention. Watch HOMECOMING on Amazon. Main scenes are 16:9, but scenes that flash forward are 1:1…and for a reason that I didn’t figure out, but someone told me near the end. It’s too spoilery to say why, but it was a planned convention…framed for it intentionally.
but 16;9 going to 1:1…and then worse, 9:16…not sure how to plan for that. Unless ALL the action takes place in that small center of the screen

Yeah, Adobe stopped supporting QT Reference files, so that’s why that is happening. More and more, the MacOS itself isn’t keen on QT Reference support, so that workflow might be going away soon. You can try a trial of Compressor to see if that still works, and if it does, then you might want to get it. But then not update things…

Yup, you got it.
Might want to bring the bin with the final cut into the project too, to put the export on top of, so you can easily detect the cut points, for easier reframing.
But wow….16:9 to 9:16? Ouch….
