    Hi folks,

I’m trying to export quicktimes as effeciently as possible. Because I’ve got a lot of them and I don’t want to tie up my Avid for too long.

My plan is to export the sequences as a qt reference video then make a proper solid qt on the desktop with some kind of application. I used to use Compressor but I don’t have that ap on this computer. The assistant editor on the project has an ap called adobe media encoder and it doesn’t seem to like the reference videos.

Does anyone know of a better ap or methodology that would work?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

Yeah, Adobe stopped supporting QT Reference files, so that’s why that is happening. More and more, the MacOS itself isn’t keen on QT Reference support, so that workflow might be going away soon. You can try a trial of Compressor to see if that still works, and if it does, then you might want to get it. But then not update things…

Shane is exactly right. We have added quicktime reference file support to our MediaReactor Lite for Adobe plugins, if you need to read them for your workflow.

    Cheers, James

Thank you for your help yet again Shane! I went to and older version – AME CC2017 – and this version still supported ref video. Now it works.

    Take care man,

Thanks James! You guys got me to thinking about older versions of AME and AME CC2017 still handles ref video.

Its good that you are making self contained versions of your videos, but you might want to take it a step further and export them as DNX OP1A, since Apple does not support third party codecs (Like Avid DNX) in Quicktime X and Quicktime 7 will no longer function in future versions of MacOS.

Thanks John! I will definitely look into this.

Have you tried MPEG Streamclip? one drawback is that it blows away Timecode and starts everything at 0:00.

I second Mpeg Streamclip. What I do is export QT refs out of Media Composer and run a batch through Mpeg Streamclip. Then you can keep working in MC. If you do this I would suggest dropping a submaster over the topmost layer of video before you export. I’ve occasionally encountered gamma shifts and weird anomalies when I export refs without doing this.

    I came up with a two-step workaround:
Use quicktime player to play the QT reference video, “Save As” will create a self-contained video.
Media Encoder can read that self-contained video.
A bit cumbersome but at least it frees up the Avid.
