For use inside FCP or outside?

Inside just adjust the scale. Outside you need to use something like photoshop.

But you need to know, that the best resolution you can get is 720×480 for DV and 720×486 for SD like Beta or DIgibeta…both at 72dpi. Make the picture any bigger and the resolution suffers.

You also need to keep the caps lock off so that you don’t look like you are shouting.

Yeah, the signal needs to be boosted. I use a Shure mic and a Mixer routed thru my capture card, but that is a more expensive way than the one Matt shouted about.

Seriously. In the post world…ONE lost day is a disaster.

I can’t believe that. I mean, they might have like 4 engineers who know more than the average tech, and they might be a bit busy…if so, hire more. If it takes that long, that is TOO long.

Oh, well then. Someone said they were using it to capture VHS footage to make DVDs. I just assumed…

NEVER assume. Now you see why. I misinformed.

    No problem. I was awake.

I was amazed at the quality of the converted files. I too received masters in the H.264 codec to cut into a DV show…target was the web so the quality hit was minor.

    glad to help.

H.264 is a delivery codec…not an editable one. You need to convert it to DV/NTSC using quicktime pro. Choose File>Export and choose the DV/NTSC codec. Then you can edit it.

After Effects isn’t codec dependant….as it is not a non-linear editing application that is expected to play back footage in real time. AE cannot playback in realtime…it needs to be rendered or for you to choose RAM PREVIEW.

You need to open the quicktime file and then look in the PROPERTIES – Apple J. Click on VIDEO.
