Can’t import QT Movie… why?
Posted by Paul01 on January 8, 2006 at 6:24 amSomebody gave me a couple of Qicktime files that I need to import into my project.
It isn’t working, there’s an error message saying: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.
If I try to open the QT file (open with) with FCP ist says: General Error
I am using FCP HD 4.5, Quicktime 7.0.1
I need those files, is there a setting that I need to change?
Thanks in advance for all the help.Shane Ross replied 20 years, 4 months ago 3 Members · 10 Replies -

January 8, 2006 at 6:34 amWhat are the codecs of these QT files? They might be a format that FCP doesn’t work with.

January 8, 2006 at 6:35 amWe need more information. Where did the files come from. What codec? Is it audio, video? Did these come from a PC? Can you open them in Quicktime? Can you open them with any app?

January 8, 2006 at 6:44 amI can open the files (Video and Audio) in Quicktime, I am not sure where they came from, Mac for sure, but probably FC Express 4.5 or 5. Will find out exactly tomorrow (it is late). Am I really tired or is there really no info on the codec in “get info”?

January 8, 2006 at 6:46 amYou need to open the quicktime file and then look in the PROPERTIES – Apple J. Click on VIDEO.
That shoudl tell you.

January 8, 2006 at 6:53 amAfter Effects isn’t codec dependant….as it is not a non-linear editing application that is expected to play back footage in real time. AE cannot playback in realtime…it needs to be rendered or for you to choose RAM PREVIEW.

January 8, 2006 at 6:55 amH.264 is a delivery codec…not an editable one. You need to convert it to DV/NTSC using quicktime pro. Choose File>Export and choose the DV/NTSC codec. Then you can edit it.

January 8, 2006 at 7:11 amNo problem. I was awake.
I was amazed at the quality of the converted files. I too received masters in the H.264 codec to cut into a DV show…target was the web so the quality hit was minor.
glad to help.
