If you are running Tiger and QT 7.0.3 and have a video card (I have the Pipe Studio) try this…go into Preferences in QT player and choose your card’s input for video and audio. Load a tape.

Close preferences and go to File-New Movie Recording. Hit play on the deck and hit record when you want to start. I chose H.264. Excellent quality, nary a glitch and easy as pie. And it is basically a realtime encoder for H.264 built in!

This is also a pain-free way to get a quick VO scratch track.

Anyone else see this? and if you don’t have the Pipe Studio card from Aurora, can yo do the same thing with say, an Aja I/O or Kona?

Let us know…cause this little “feature” rocks.

You can do this via firewire and DV cameras and decks as well. You can encode MPEG-2 on the fly too, for DVD creation.

Many people capture their footage this way and then try to import into FCP for editing. FCP won’t recognize it.

This is great Shane! But how do you get Mpeg2? I only see options for Mpeg4, H.264 and “Device Native.”

Oh, well then. Someone said they were using it to capture VHS footage to make DVDs. I just assumed…

NEVER assume. Now you see why. I misinformed.
