Method 1:
on the top layer, make a mask
Layer > Add Layer Mask
use a brush with a soft edge to paint black in the mask. Whatever is black in the mask will turn transparent.Method 2:
Use the eraser tool to erase the edges of the top layer.
To soften the eraser edges, use Shift [ (or in other glyphs) {********************************

Are you trying to import it into something? Otherwise, in Illustrator, the background (white) can print tranparently. We might need more info to help you properly.

Or you can cut out the person, and place him on a new layer. Then add one of the collage photos on the layer above him. Select the collage photo layer in the layer palette, and hit ctrl G (command G on mac). Place another photo above that layer, select that layer and hit ctrl G again. This is a much easier way, as long as I explained it clearly.

You may have disabled your Pro features when you upgraded. Maybe re-updating to Pro will enable you to solve the FCP cinewave issue.

Use the image slicer, save for web and in the pop-up menu at the bottom of the “save for web” dialog box, choose save images and html. Then upload your appropriate files to your .mac account.
