So when using MXF4Mac, Never use the media managment? Good to know, I’m putting a note on the editors computer right now. What is the virtual tape option? thanks Bjoern!

Yes, this is what I do, just hoping there might be a new solution that I haven’t heard of. thanks

Great, thanks! One more quick question; does anyone know in the future if P2 will be able to be imported as one single clip? This seems to be a big reason why editors don’t like p2 because they like browsing through one solid clip, as if it were one tape. Does anyone have thoughts on this? thanks

Holy moly, what an epiphany you gave me today. For some reason all these years I never thought to uncheck the self contained movie, I always thought it was either scm or recompress frame. Guess I skipped that in the manual. Knowing that would have saved me hours and hours. thanks for the help dude. phew, can’t believe I never new this. thanks again. cheers

I have been in contact with Bjorn, I will post his answers when finished. The problem also seems to be stemming from the editor copying and pasting from seperate projects. The project being pasted into doesn’t have a reference clip to relate back to, thus causing some of the problem. Will return with Bjoern’s answers

The drives I have now are duplicate drives from a gsafe housing and they are sata drives that are in Mercury Elite Pro casings, which have eSATA ports. I’m not in fear of losing anything, because I have an exact replica in storage of the drives and I haven’t digitized anything because I’m using MXF4mac.
I have no way of plugging the eSATA cables in the computer and I don’t know if you can daisy chain these drives via eSATA. But I’ve read the benefit of using eSATA as opposed to firewire 800 is negligible.I haven’t really looked into what you have recommended, but can I pull my drives out of their casings and plug them into the HD element?

March 10, 2009 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Can’t unlock P2 cards to change metadata also have MXF4macI tried that and it didn’t work, that’s what makes all this so confusing. I unlocked all of the folders in the contents file and it still doesn’t allow me. Now I will say, don’t know if I said this before, but on other drives some P2 contents files are locked and some aren’t. I have no idea why this is. I dropped all P2 the same way, on the same computer.

As far as the P2 folders are concerned
all of the contents folders are locked and all of the files contained inside the contents folders are locked. -

March 10, 2009 at 2:48 pm in reply to: Can’t unlock P2 cards to change metadata also have MXF4macThe data from the card is sitting on a separate hard drive and I have tons of hours of footage to log.
. When I try and change metadata in P2cms I get this error message that says
[/Volumes/JOAN P2 A/JOAN_media_P2/joan_060308/joan_001/CONTENTS/CLIP/0001LM.XML] cannot be saved. Please confirm if it is locked.
I then went to the folder inside the P2 data folder and unlocked all of the XML files, which when I do that I still get the error message.
I can’t put marks or anything with out getting the error message
