I’m working on a fairly large doc that has mixed media and most of it is in PAL HD. We have no budget and the editor is cutting on a macbook. Some people want to see what the project looks like now at its 80 minute rough cut. Unfortunately we don’t have a deck and need to export to quicktimes or DVDs. Exporting under it’s current settings would take roughly 7 hours. Using the offline photo jpeg PAL setting would roughly be 6 hours. We would then have to compress to DVD, which would be another few hours. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to cut this time down at all? thanks

    To make a DVD

To make something anyone can watch via computer or download.

Export a reference quicktime movie. That is Export > Quicktime Movie. Leave “Make Self Contained Movie” UN checked.

Bring that into compressor and make the H.264 file of your choice. The smaller the file the more the compression. We generally make 640×360 700kbps files for reviews.

Holy moly, what an epiphany you gave me today. For some reason all these years I never thought to uncheck the self contained movie, I always thought it was either scm or recompress frame. Guess I skipped that in the manual. Knowing that would have saved me hours and hours. thanks for the help dude. phew, can’t believe I never new this. thanks again. cheers
